October 2021 in Crafts: Let's Catch Up!

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

It’s been a long time since the last update - let’s catch up! The past 6 months have been really turbulent for me. I graduated university, had a bit of an identity crisis, then got myself (sort of) together to open an Etsy shop!

Needless to say, a lot has happened and I’m excited to share with you the progress I’ve made on my crafting journey!

New sources of inspiration

During the last few months I fell into a pit where I had no motivation to do anything. At times this meant I also didn’t want to make any crafts. Since I finished university, I was no longer active in the DIY Club and I no longer had that small community of crafters to talk to and draw inspiration from.

I started watching Twitch crafting streamers and they helped me not only spark inspiration but find a huge community of crafters of different kinds. Other crafters are also very welcome to questions and have been helpful and encouraging to me.

Some of my favorites: FalseBubbles (crochet, amigurumi), TourNewSoul (sewing, accessories, mini hats), and TerraMisa (nerdy themed terrariums)

Starting a business

In the beginning of September, I started my own Etsy shop! It was a difficult journey and I’m still learning a lot every day. I think the biggest challenges I have been facing recently have been finding a balance between the blog, the shop, and my work.

I’ll be going into more depth on my journey starting up an Etsy soon!

Spooky and Fall crafts

October is the season of the spooky! Although Halloween has passed, I know there are y’all out there who wear skeleton sweaters all year round. If you’re winding up for the winter festivities, you can still check out this list of cozy crafts!

What’s coming in November

November is going to be super busy for me so I might not be as active as I’ve been. Good news though! I will be taking part in Ottawa Artisans’ Virtual Holiday Market! You can support small handcrafted businesses including mine and shipping is available across Canada. I'll see you guys there!

How were the last few months for you? Do you have a favorite project you worked on? What's your latest craft obsession? Leave me a comment letting me know or find me on Instagram or Twitter @thenerDIYblog! If you'd like your crafting questions answered live, I stream on Twitch at twitch.tv/finding_doro.
