January in Crafts: Happy New Year!

Happy 2022! We’re already a month in - where did the time go?? This month’s review is going to be a little different. Since I didn’t do a December review, this month will be a reflection on all of 2021 while showing you a peek of what you can look forward to in the new year!

2021 in Crafts

2021 was a rollercoaster of a year. I graduated from university, got a lot of time to work on my blog as well as a huge new project: my shop!

Starting up an online shop and a small handmade business was certainly a challenge, and I had to learn a lot of things on the job, so to speak. Craft fairs were particularly difficult to prepare for, and I still have so much to learn. If you’re curious about how that went, read all about it in this blog post. It was a challenge but so far it has been very fulfilling!

Starting up my shop and getting a full-time job on top of that meant that I wasn’t posting on my blog and social media as much. I’m still figuring out how to balance everything, but I’m starting to get into a groove that I believe is working quite well.

2022 Goals

This year, I have four main goals:

1. Write patterns

I have had a few people ask if I have crochet patterns for my hats available, and I’m happy to now say yes! As of the end of January, the pattern for my crochet mushroom bucket hat will be the first pattern available in my Etsy shop. I will be aiming to release at least one pattern a month in 2022.

2. Attend a convention as a vendor

After experiencing a small local craft fair, I’m feeling ambitious! I’d like to try attending a convention as a vendor, even if it’s only as a learning experience. I will be applying for Anime North in Toronto, so fingers crossed!

3. Stream on Twitch

I started a huge Stardew Valley Map cross stitch piece and I’ve been streaming my progress every week on Twitch. I’m very new to streaming so every week I learn and grow more comfortable. I’m eager to see the difference after a year!

4. As always, practice, practice, practice

What’s coming in February

This year, I’m working on planning in advance. I’ve prepared a special guest post featuring a crafter that I very much admire, and I’m super excited to share it with you! I’ll also be releasing new products and patterns to the shop. In the meantime, you can catch me on Twitch on Wednesdays at 7pm EST and Sundays at 4pm EST!

What did you make in January? What are you most excited for this year? Let me know in the comments below or reach out to me on Instagram or Twitter @thenerdiyblog, or on twitch.tv/finding_doro. Happy crafting!
